Liberty Healthcare Corporation Competency Trainer (BSW or MSW) – forensic mental health program in CA, United States

Liberty Healthcare is now accepting applications for a full-time “Competency Trainer” position with our organization’s newest forensic mental health program.

This program exclusively serves people who are justice involved and experiencing mental illness.

The goal of this program is to provide rapid mental health services to people in need - so they may achieve improved behavioral health outcomes as quickly as possible.

The program is designed to facilitate early access to services, eliminate barriers to treatment, and restore people to competency as quickly as possible.

Services are provided to clients who are adult inmates at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

As a Competency Trainer, you will work onsite in the jail and provide face-to-face services to program clients.

You will help educate clients regarding their mental illness, the criminal justice system, and general court proceedings.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Documenting services and client progress

  • Participating in clinical team meetings and case conferences

  • Collaborating with clinical, ancillary and security staff

  • Helping to ensure program clients receive high quality mental health services

  • This position will require you to work in-person onsite at the jail.

As a full-time employee of Liberty Healthcare, you can expect:

  • Starting salary between $60,000 to $67,000 (depending on degree, experience, and other qualifications)

To qualify for this position, you must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Education, Criminal Justice, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related social services / human services field. Prior experience serving people with mental illness is also required.

Knowledge regarding the criminal justice system is preferred. Social Work, Case Management or similar experience in a mental health setting is helpful. A professional license is not required.

Outstanding communication skills are a must, and you should have the ability to establish rapport with people who are experiencing mental illness.
