Job Summary:

Works closely with design / development engineering, manufacturing, quality, program management in coordinating all aspects of product and process design, development, optimization, validation, and improvement throughout its lifecycle. Coordinates activities towards manufacturing readiness ensuring product manufacturability and testability. Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. Determines parts and tools needed to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications and needs.

Essential Functions:

  • NPI manufacturing engineer ensures producibility, manufacturability & testability, smooth product transition from the design phase to full production release, including quality, manufacturing, and product sustaining processes.

  • This position focuses on building / coordinating with other VS (value stream) MEs with related processes and infrastructures required for each VS involved in assembly, test, and quality control.

  • Assist / coordinate process improvement / development, from ideation to verification / validation, including coordinating the creation of fixturing/tooling for rate manufacturing & assembly processes.

  • Investigate / coordinate, develop and drive technology & equipment selection and deployment of automation solutions to stream-line various processes: including, but not limited to machining, hone – lap - grind, mechanical assembly, electromechanical assembly, test & inspection.

  • Asses existing processes to implement improvements towards new products.

  • Participate to review manufacturing sourcing RFPs and responses. Supports the selection of vendors.

  • Ensures Creation manufacturing plans for prototype, pilot production and full production.

  • Demonstrates and co-owns production readiness and documenting via the NPI and PRR (Production Readiness Review) checklists. This includes production tooling, facilities, manufacturing methods, processes, workflows.

  • Attends project reviews and design reviews. Presents updates at project reviews on manufacturing readiness and issues.

  • Able to analyze engineering CAD models for HW testability and producibility.

  • Lead and implement process changes and improvements aimed at minimizing process variation and maximizing Rolled Throughput Yield (RTY) and ensure understanding of changes and improvements to factory workforce.

  • Recommend design changes to improve manufacturability of products.

  • Evaluate make/buy decisions supportive of maximizing cost savings and factory leverage.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 to 8 years in an Engineering/Manufacturing environment.

  • Bachelor degree in an Engineering, Manufacturing, or Science area of study or equivalent.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft/PC applications (e.g. Windows, MS Office, MS Access).

  • Strong communication, organizational and oral presentation skills with the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to develop and present failure analysis reports.

  • Previous exposure to NPI (New Product Introduction)

  • Working knowledge of FMEA, Control Plan, gage & process capability studies

  • Lean-six-sigma working knowledge

Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CNC programming and AutoCAD capabilities strongly preferred for Mechanical manufacturing areas.

  • Fabrication, assembly and test experience preferred.

  • Lean, Continuous Improvement, and/or Operational Excellence experience.

  • Understanding of finance and cost analysis.

  • Project management capabilities.

  • Technical writing skills.

  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment

  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE

  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes

  • Must be available to work overtime, as needed

  • Flexible work schedule to support production

  • Standing: up to 100% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task

  • Sitting: up to 75% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task

  • Lifting (in pounds): up to 25 pounds

  • Pushing (in pounds): up to 50 pounds

  • Mental/Visual: use of microscope and computer

  • Workspace: cubicle/desk

Top Benefits:

Salary range: $106,500 to $143,500. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
