The Substance Use Counselor is responsible for providing a full range of integrated casework including counseling, advocacy and substance use treatment services to individuals, groups and/or families. Counsels program participants on matters of problematic alcohol and/or substance use toward helping patients achieve treatment goals consistent with harm reduction philosophies. Possess familiarity with diverse populations and the LGBTQ+ Community. As part of the essential functions of this role, the Substance Use Counselor:

  • Conducts initial psychosocial assessments and provides initial treatment recommendations and collaboratively with the patient develops a personalized treatment plan with emphasis on evidenced- based practice within a harm reduction orientation.

  • Provides resources and referrals as indicated to facilitate achievement of a patient’s treatment goals

  • Provides psychotherapy (group and/or individual) and crisis intervention to individuals and families who are dealing with a variety of issues including but not limited to substance use, co-occurring mental health disorders, chronic medical conditions including HIV, HCV and issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

  • Adheres to program expectations and requirements surrounding productivity, documentation timelines and standards, and overall quality of patient care.

  • Works within an integrated treatment model coordinating treatment with both internal and external providers as indicated.

  • Will serve as a role model for positive, productive, and cooperative relationships with staff and clients.

  • Adheres to Office of Addiction Services and Supports regulations and Evergreen Health policy and procedures including regulatory timeframes on clinical documentation using an electronic medical record system

    Qualified candidate will have a Master's degree in social work (or similar) with two (2) years of relevant experience. LMSW/LCSW preferred. Candidate must be able to provide both in person and telehealth services. Competence in working with multicultural groups essential. Candidate must be able to communicate clearly and professionally, and demonstrate personal responsibility and integrity. Ability to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) in a manner consistent with HIPAA a must. Sensitivity to and experience with cultural diversity, Harm Reduction, LGBTQ population, Substance Use population and people living with HIV/AIDS issues is essential.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Required education/experience: Master’s degree in social work (or similar) with two (2) years of relevant experience.

    Preferred Licensure: LMSW/LCSW
