The Charter School for Applied Technologies (CSAT) opened its doors in 2001 as a 700-student school serving grades K-6. Today, CSAT is a busy campus consisting of three distinct buildings (Elementary, Middle and High Schools), that host approximately 2,300 students from 19 different school districts throughout WNY.

Job Summary

The School Counselor leads a school-wide approach to identifying, securing, and coordinating resources that ensure success for every child. The Counselor ensures direct support for students, the inclusion of parents through partnership, and the integration of services to children. The

Counselor organizes the counseling program by assessing needs, setting goals, and formulating a plan of action and program evaluation.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide direct support service to individual students, small groups, and classrooms

  • Apply his or her clinical experience directly to students, provide leadership to the academic concerns, and guide the development and implementation of initial ongoing referrals

  • Complete assessments, referrals and counseling with students and families

  • Coordinate and follow up various services for children needing additional support

  • Oversee implementation of CSAT's program consulting with other professional staff and outside agencies and other organizations

  • Maintain ACT reports, such as referral date and documentation of student support services and interventions and collaborate with colleagues to coordinate support services.

  • Complete home visits and assessments

  • Track student progress and follow up to ensure students 'needs are being met and act as a pinot of contact for outside organizations working with students and their families

  • Oversee school wide attendance and behavior incentive programs and work directly with teachers, and families to ensure attendance of every child

  • Collaborate with office staff and teachers to maintain records of attendance trends

  • Ensure that all parents are informed of relevant issues

  • Demonstrate an awareness of the cultural differences and needs of students in the school

  • Guide and support students and parents about career opportunities, post-secondary application procedures, financial aid, etc. in the HS setting

  • Plan and coordinate student schedules and rosters in the MS and HS setting

  • Follow federal, state ad local lows, policies and procedures which govern school counseling programs.

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with students and families

  • Compare and evaluate possible courses of action using discretion and independent judgement

  • Plan and conduct special events as "Career Night" "Handicap Awareness Week" and other such events.

  • Help the school administration identify and remedy school policies and programs that foster student and staff development and benefit students

  • Effectively communicate both verbally and written with students, parents and professionals.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • BA, BS Degree in Social Work, or certification in School Psychology

  • Master's degree in clinical or School Psychology or Counseling preferred

  • New York State credentials (Counseling or Social Work Certification)

  • Experience working with social services agencies

  • Clinical experience with at-risk children in capacity of social worker, psychologist, counselor, or similar role

  • Experience with Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000
