Evergreen Health Harm Reduction Worker in Buffalo, New York

The Harm Reduction Worker (Part -Time) is responsible for the daily operation of the Harm Reduction Center. They will work to ensure goals and work plans for the Harm Reduction Center are met. As part of the essential functions of the role, the Harm Reduction Worker:

  • Conducts activities to support the day-to-day operations of the Harm Reduction Center and completion of program Work Plan goals,including: program encounters, program enrollments, Overdose Prevention training, and education about disease prevention and harm reduction resources.

  • Implements Harm Reduction Center work plans, goals and objectives targeting special populations that include: PWID, gay and bisexual men, youth and people of color.

  • Provides effective and appropriate response to behavioral incidents and health emergencies involving patients of the Harm Reduction Center, in collaboration with other staff members, in adherence to agency/program protocols.

  • Appropriately engage Harm Reduction Center patients in education and services focused on HIV/HCV prevention, safe use, and overdose prevention.

  • Delivers outreach and educational services at various venues targeting high risk populations.

  • Maintains inventory of Program supplies; orders supplies when needed.

  • Works closely with all departments within Evergreen to ensure safety of both patients and the surrounding community.

  • Collaborates with Senior Harm Reduction Worker to conduct drug litter sweeps of areas surrounding Evergreen Health’s Elmwood location and other areas known to have litter, along with answering Harm Reduction Center notification hotline during work hours.

  • Assists in tracking of data and preparation of monthly and annual reports of activity to New York State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control.

  • Actively checks work emails, reads all company communications and stays up to date with organizational and department specific announcements.

  • Adheres to policies regarding working hours, break periods and proper use of Evergreen Health’s ADP payroll and benefits system.

  • Maintains adherence to Evergreen Health’s Corporate Compliance policies; promptly reports any violations to their supervisor, the Corporate Compliance Officer, or anonymously to the Corporate Compliance helpline at: (716) 541-0663.

  • Other duties as requested.

  • Ability to establish rapport with PWUD, knowledge of issues related to drug use and addiction, and desire to provide supportive and non-judgmental services to this population.

  • Ability to travel between office locations as necessary.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

    Qualified Candidate will have an Associate's degree in public health or related field -OR- two (2) years of experience working with at risk populations. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally. The qualified candidate will have knowledge of harm reduction and drug user health. Sensitivity toward cultural diversity, people living with HIV/AIDS and lifestyle and addiction issues essential.

    Required education/experience: Associate's degree in public health or related field -OR- two (2) years of experience working with at risk populations
