Systems Engineering Consultant:

WSP is looking for Systems Consultants to join our industry-leading Intelligent Infrastructure team. We provide consultancy and systems engineering services to transport clients throughout the UK and overseas. As a key member of our team you will be able to access a range of benefits, including targeted professional development, and the opportunity to contribute to the direction of our business and to help us improve the ways in which we grow. You will contribute to the capability of our digital systems engineering consultancy team, providing advice, assurance and delivery to clients across the system engineering lifecycle.

You will be part of a team that uses a tailored blend of lifecycle, service and business change delivery methods to provide high quality strategic advice, technical assurance, solution guidance, specification, system design, architecture, and testing assurance to mostly government clients.

You will work closely with your clients, sometimes as their first point of contact, for technical advice. You will be responsible for getting to the heart of their needs and challenges. You will challenge assumptions and bring your client solutions that create genuine benefit and exceed their expectations.

We work as consultants, designers, and thought-leaders, able to understand and articulate complex systems and give robust advice that is in the best interests of our clients and their customers.

Our immediate need is for consultants who can deliver project work autonomously, guiding more junior members of staff and reporting into our technical leads. However, we’d also welcome your application if you have a wealth of experience in systems engineering consultancy and are keen to lead and help our business grow.

  • Comfortable working independently in client facing environments and defining project requirements for yourself, strong problem-solving mindset, comfortable working in ambiguous situations and escalating to senior staff when required

You will have all of these:

  • A Degree in a relevant engineering discipline and the added recognition of a professional registration with an accredited institute, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Have domain knowledge in a relevant industry, that could be transportation or operational technology, Business IT, software or engineering consultancy

  • Experience of applying systems assurance to sizeable projects and programmes, and experience in client-facing roles

Ideally, you will also have some of the following:

  • Knowledge of different framework and lifecycle delivery methodologies – such as: Waterfall, V-Model, Agile or Scrum, and experience of using them in complex projects

  • Understanding of IT service management frameworks such as ITIL or COBIT

  • Experience of leading teams, and defining, mobilising, and delivering projects and programmes, with a mix of colleagues, clients and other parties, including business change initiatives

  • Support and guide wider business development, able to recognise commercial opportunities and work with relevant business leads and subject matter experts to grow our business

  • Knowledge of model-based systems engineering (MBSE), ideally using a range of modelling languages and supporting software tools
