At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. We have an exciting and career defining opportunity for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join the team on an 18 month Fixed Term contract (18 month Secondment for internal applicants only) The successful candidate will be embedded within the Global CME, the Airbus CME Cluster & A400m/A380 programme teams for the duration of this role. Primarily you will lead and technically manage retrofit, modification and spares projects for A380 at Filton from their current stages through to delivery and will work both internally and in a customer facing capacity.

How You'll Contribute

⦁ Project Management: Collaborate with engineering teams to support the development and introduction of new products or processes. Ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule, while meeting quality and safety requirements. ⦁ System Optimization: Analyse existing manufacturing processes, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality.

⦁ Manufacturing System design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop production plans, determine facility layout, and optimize resource allocation. Ensure that workflow, material flow, and workstations are designed for maximum efficiency and safety.

⦁ Equipment and Technology Evaluation: In conjunction with the technology teams; Evaluate existing equipment and technology used in manufacturing processes, recommend upgrades or replacements, and direct investment of new tools to enhance productivity and reduce costs. Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends.

⦁ Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the function to by implementing best practices, developing the Industrial Architect & Industrial Engineer ways of working, promote statistical analysis and process control techniques to drive operational excellence and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs).

⦁ Team Leadership and Mentoring: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to colleague on industrial engineering concepts. Foster a collaborative work environment, promote knowledge sharing, and encourage professional development within the organisation.

⦁ Maintaining oversight and driving awareness of the KPIs for A400m across all sites (Filton, Western Approach & Cowes) with particular focus on efficiency & quality. ⦁ Identifying, promoting and leading improvement projects using the TPC/project-pipeline model. ⦁ Technically supporting the CME and wider A400m/A380 programme team.

What You'll Bring

Essential:

⦁ Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects within aerospace manufacturing, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Strong organizational and planning skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. ⦁ Analytical Thinking: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify root causes, analyse data, and propose innovative solutions. Proficiency in statistical analysis and familiarity with software tools such as Minitab or Excel. ⦁ Communication and Collaboration: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, present complex technical information to stakeholders, and influence decision-making.

⦁ Minimum of 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering. ⦁ Detailed Kknowledge of quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000 ⦁ Fluent in English language, both written and spoken

  • Industrial Engineering Expertise: In-depth knowledge and experience in industrial engineering principles, methodologies, and tools.

  • Strong understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes, including machining, assembly, and testing.

  • Process Optimization: Proven track record of successfully optimizing manufacturing processes & systems to enhance productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Skilled in conducting time studies, process mapping, and implementing process control methodologies.

Desirable:

⦁ Supply Chain Optimization: Knowledge of supply chain management principles and experience in optimizing supply chain processes within the aerospace industry. Understanding ⦁ Familiarity with AS9145 APQP process or equivalent

The successful candidate will evidence strong leadership qualities and will be a confident communicator at all levels. The role requires the successful candidate to be adept in strategic and reactive planning with a focus on detail. You will have a flair for problem solving and able to proactively approach projects with continuous improvement in mind.
