Role Summary
Here at Parker Meggitt, we’re looking for an established Senior Design Engineer that possess a sound understanding of thermal systems design and integration, coupled to application and manufacturing process specific knowledge. Uniquely, this role will support research and technology developments to enable the entry into aerospace service of lightweight, additively manufactured components. The intent will be to train the successful candidate in the state of the art design and analysis workflows developed by HiETA Technologies (now part of Parker Aerospace) to produce additively manufactured hardware whilst combining these with the application specific knowledge associated with Parker’s existing product lines.

Core Responsibilities
Applying Systems Engineering principles to map product & technology requirements and develop design solutions
Using CAE tools to assess product performance (incl. heat transfer, integrity & manufacturability)
Applying CAD and advanced geometric modelling techniques to create design definition
Calculating and specifying allowable levels of variability (tolerances) in design
Specifying, conducting and/or supervising part validation process
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Essential
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
Proven experience in calculating specifying, conducting and/or supervising part validation processes
Proven experience in applying CAD and advanced geometric modelling techniques to create design definition
Extensive Knowledge of systems Engineering principles
Experience in the use of CAE tools to assess product performance
Ability to gather data, to compile information, and prepare reports
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Well-organised, detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task
Ability to work independently and prioritise duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines
Desirable
Master’s Degree in relevant field
Ability to integrate a variety of considerations into robust design solutions
Some knowledge of Six Sigma and Robust Design techniques
Understanding of the physics of heat transfer
Basic understanding of mechanics of materials, ideally with knowledge of unique requirements of the AM process
Some appreciation of the role of analytical techniques associated with thermal systems design – hand calculations, prelim design (1D) methods, CFD/FEA
Ability to communicate design intent via. 3D CAD and 2D Drawings
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing techniques
Ideally, an appreciation of the physics of the AM process and how varying process parameters interact
