Reports to: The Office of Multilingual and Multicultural Education BPS Office Multilingual and Multicultural Education (OMME) is seeking to stipend 4 RETELL instructors for the educator course and one RETELL instruction for the administrator course. The RETELL instructor must have a commitment to address the persistent gap in academic proficiency experienced by multilingual students. At the heart of this initiative are training and licensure requirements for the Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement, which core academic and career vocational teachers of multilinguals and principals/assistant principals and supervisors/directors who supervise or evaluate such teachers must obtain. OMME seeks instructors for both SEI Endorsement Teacher and SEI Administrator courses during SY24-25. Courses may be taught remotely via zoom or be held on-site at a BPS school. RESPONSIBILITIES: A Rethinking Equity in the Teaching of English Language Learners (RETELL) instructor is responsible for creating a Zoom link for the course, teaching the DESE SEI Endorsement course, taking attendance and grading all assignments in the LMS. The following dates and times for the courses are listed here: Mondays: 4:30PM-7:30PM - 9/30, 10/7, 10/21, 10/28, 11/4 The audience for this course is school based administrators Tuesdays: 4:30PM-7:30PM - 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 11/26, 12/3, 12/10, 12/17 Wednesdays: 4:30PM-7:30PM - 9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20, 12/4, 12/11, 12/18, 1/7 Thursdays: 4:30PM-7:30PM - 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 10/30, 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 11/26 12/5, 12/12, 12/19 - *Please note 10/30 is a Wednesday and 11/26 is a Tuesday Saturdays: 9:00AM-12:00PM - 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, 11/23, 12/7, 12/14, 1/11 Please indicate when applying for the role which courses you would like to be considered for. Required Qualifications: Hold a Master’s Degree in the field of EL Education or Linguistics or a Master’s Degree in a related field; Hold or be eligible to obtain a valid Massachusetts Teacher and/or Administrator license. Completed the DESE RETELL Training or Refresher course and is currently eligible to teach. Possess a minimum of three years experience teaching and/or leading. Experience with English learners with disabilities and the intersection of language and learning differences. Possess a working knowledge of various state and federal rules and regulations that pertain to services for ELs. Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, such as OMME and other RETELL instructors. Demonstrated delivery of effective professional development opportunities that utilize teacher leadership and a strong understanding of the Common Core and World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment; Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of closing the achievement gap for ELs and EL instructional strategies, evaluation, and theories; Excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills; and Experience working with diverse student populations, including teaching EL students for a minimum of five years. Strong organizational skills, with outstanding attention to detail; Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
