Job Description

The Medical Coding Analyst reports to the Director of Quality and Data Analytics, and is responsible for ensuring that our customer’s coding quality expectations are met and contributes to  continual quality improvement for our internal products.

The Quality and Data Analytics team is seeking a Medical Coding Analyst with a strong background in medical coding, billing, and auditing. The Medical Coding Analyst will be involved in all things coding related from beginning to end, including auditing and scoring coding work-product, identifying quality and workflow requirements for customers, analyzing automation optimization opportunities, and serving as a company subject matter expert on medical coding for our Machine Learning and Product teams.

The Medical Coding Analyst will work collaboratively to create evaluation and training materials and share knowledge within and outside of Quality and Data Analytics regarding medical coding and billing. They will actively participate in customer implementations acting as coding quality liaison between our customer and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and document the coding practices, workflow, and quality expectations of customers to facilitate the CodaMetrix product install as well as identify and recommend potential customer workflow/practice improvements

  • Manage Coding Quality Assurance (CQA) projects, including audit assignment, and training and QA of coding staff

  • Participate in the development of  insightful and comprehensive medical coding and billing training materials to be disseminated across the company

  • Serve as the company Subject Matter Expert for medical coding and billing questions

  • Proactively stay up to date on medical coding and billing information

  • Drive the CQA team forward by constantly seeking and sharing ideas and solutions

  • Actively share knowledge with the CQDA team regarding coding and billing. 

  • Act as the subject matter expert on coding for the Machine Learning and Product teams.

  • Work with the Implementation team to ensure customer quality and workflow requirements are addressed.

Requirements

  • Current AHIMA or AAPC coding credential held for 3+ years

  • 3+ years of coding and auditing experience with progressive growth in responsibilities, specifically with experience in Radiology

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • An analytic and problem solving mindset - interested in root cause analysis and process improvement

  • Skilled at communicating across technical and non-technical audiences as well as with those who both do and do not have a medical coding background

  • Detail oriented, committed to excellence and precision

  • Intellectual curiosity and creativity coexisting alongside critical thinking

  • Ability to work efficiently under time pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Positive and patient team player

Nice to Have

  • CPMA or AHIMA equivalent credential

  • Medical billing experience, including denials and payer policies

  • Supervisory and/or Project Management experience

  • Data analysis to identify coding risks, trends or reimbursement opportunities

  • Previous experience with a start up or software company

  • Experience with CAC systems
