Summary Statement

Founded in 1979, the Dick Eardley Boise Senior Center strives to improve the health and well-being of older adults in our community. Anyone and everyone who can benefit from what we do is welcome to stop by and join us for classes, lunch, educational sessions or just to meet new people. We are here to help older members of our community be informed, inspired, or empowered.

We are currently hiring for multiple programs.

This position:

  • Leads programs/camps for adults at community centers and in the community.

  • Assists supervisor and staff in coordinating safe, fun, and appropriate activities.

  • Work is performed using independent judgment and discretion.

  • Open to individuals age 19 and older.

  • Is required to drive a 12- or 15-passenger van.

  • Designated as At-Will.

Essential Functions

Leads day trips for adults in Boise and the surrounding area. (40%)

Drives 12-passenger shuttle or 15-passenger van. Ensures the safety and well-being of clients. (40%)

Acts as liaison between Boise Parks and Recreation and activity destinations. (10%)

Properly manages money for group activities in the community. (10%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time. Total Percentage = 100%

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Six months' experience volunteering or working with adults in a customer service role.

Ability to communicate and establish rapport with participants of all ages and ability levels; deal with the public, coworkers and supervisors in a friendly and tactful manner; recognize and redirect misbehavior; use strong human relations and organizational skills; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

One year of experience teaching classes or leading programs with multiple participants

Current certification in CPR/First Aid

Licensing And Other Requirements

Valid state-issued driver's license.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be able to pass:

City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

Working Conditions

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is rarely lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds. The noise level is always moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk and hear. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand and walk.

Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position.Lead programs inside of community centers and outside.

19-Hour Temporary

All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.

4-Month Temporary

All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.

8-Month Seasonal

In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.

9-Month Temporary

In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
