Summary Statement
Boise Parks and Recreation maintains three cemeteries in the City of Boise, Fort Boise Military Reserve Cemetery, Morris Hill Cemetery, and Pioneer Cemetery.
Maintenance Tech Cemetery:
Performs maintenance, installation, and operation of irrigation, water supply systems, and potable sources for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Performs grounds keeping and maintenance of turf, trees, and shrubs and assists with cemetery operations.
Works under immediate/direct supervision.
Is open to interested persons aged 19 years and older.
Essential Functions
Assists with maintenance and installation of irrigation systems. Inspects and adjusts sprinkler heads, system timers and central control modules. Troubleshoots irrigation systems to maintain and repair valves, pipes and ensure proper seasonal start-up and winterization processes are performed. Ensures detailed documentation of inventory, supply tracking, inspection logs and related procedures. (50%)
Performs grounds maintenance. Provides recommendations for maintenance procedures, watering requirements and irrigation system adjustments. Identifies pest infestations and utilizes Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles to treat the issue. (30%)
Assists with burial services. Coordinates with funeral directors and staff to determine cultural and/or religious requirements for burial and services. Assists with proper care and maintenance of burial sites. (20%)

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience working in park maintenance.
Knowledge of: standard safety practices related to relevant tools and equipment; Integrated Pest Management principles for treating disease, insects and weeds; right of way safety; chemical application and related safety procedures; irrigation systems and maintenance; and basic facility maintenance.
Ability to: operate vehicles, heavy equipment, power and hand tools; read blueprints, schematic diagrams and technical manuals; safely utilize related protective gear and safety equipment; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Four years of experience performing maintenance in a cemetery setting utilizing medium-heavy equipment.
Idaho Pesticide Operators License issued by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture.
Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid state-issued driver’s license.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be able to pass:
City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, frequently lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds, occasionally lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds, frequently pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate and rarely very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, runn, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards and work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals.
This position works: weekends and evenings as scheduled.
