HealthPartners Director, Finance Reporting and Tax in Bloomington, Minnesota

HealthPartners is hiring a Director of Finance Reporting and Tax. This role is responsible for the preparation and analysis of all internal and external financial statements for HealthPartners enterprise. This includes financial statements and narratives for all corporations which make up the HealthPartners family of companies. They are responsible for preparation of HealthPartners IRS returns for both taxable and tax-exempt corporations. This role plays a significant role in the preparation and activities of various external audits. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: BA/BS in accounting or finance. Minimum of 10 years' experience in finance and/or accounting that includes at least 5 years supervising a large professional staff. Minimum of 5 years' experience in the insurance industry. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Builds effective working relationships with all levels and across all departments in the organization. Possesses strong consultative, problem solving and teamwork skills to effectively carry out the responsibilities of this position. Skilled at listening to customers, interpreting their needs and responding to their requests in a timely manner. Experience in application of both general accepted accounting principles, statutory accounting principles and tax laws is required. Excellent analytical, written and presentation skills. Must be able to direct and organize the work of the financial reporting department effectively. Must be able to work independently and effectively under tight deadlines. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Experience in HealthCare Environment and knowledge of the IBNR reserving process Knowledge of Oracle Fusion Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: CPA ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Directs the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal and external reporting purposes. Reviews all financial information for HealthPartners to ensure accuracy of all internal and external reporting. Directs the preparation of internal and external financial statements for the consolidated financial results of HealthPartners. Responsible for understanding and supporting the cost allocation methods between organizations within HealthPartners. Directs the preparation of external audit reports. (GAAP, STAT, FEHBP, Medicare Cost Plan Reports and employee benefit plans) Timely and accurate reporting to all governmental agencies (i.e., 990's, State HMO reports, NAIC reports, State and Federal tax returns, sales tax returns, employment tax returns and other data requests). Directs the preparation and analysis of HealthPartners tax returns. Including the following: 990, 1120, 5500, sales tax, employment tax, provider tax and premium tax returns. Identifies and communicates problem areas which may affect financial performance of HealthPartners. Resolves issues as appropriate. Develops and improves the internal and external financial reports of HealthPartners. Continues to seek new ideas to help internal and external customers understand our financial performance. Directs the health plan related organizations including medical loss ratios, premium deficiency reserves, Medicare cost reports and product line dictionary maintenance. Oversees the management of the Financial Reporting Department including: Responsible for hiring, firing, motivating, and developing the staff in this department Proactively manages the completion of internal and external reports to ensure deadlines are met. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures are met including the adequacy and effectiveness of the internal control environment. Provides other financial analysis and projects as requested by senior management: Other duties as requested by management. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for the supervision of staff, including having the authority to hire, transfer, lay off, promote, discipline and discharge, train, re ard and review performance of employees.
