The Software Engineering Manager coordinates the execution of the engineering strategy and roadmap that supports BT's commercial strategy through cross functional business partnering and the participation of a team that pursues innovation as well as engineering excellence.

What you’ll be doing

• Drive the implementation of the Consumer Telco Capability roadmap meeting the needs of both Consumer and Digital transformations.

• Navigate conflicting priorities and demands within a resource constrained environment making strategic decisions that optimise the allocation of resources.

• Provide clear communications within the team and to wider stakeholders on progress, risks, issues etc. ensuing transparency and facilitating informed decision making.

• Monitor, manage and ensure timely releases ensuring quality compliance at all times.

• Oversee the definition and implementation of engineering standards and best practices.

• Design and implement engineering and operational excellence initiatives, implementing metrics and processes for regular assessment and continual improvement.

• Coordinate the evaluation and implementation of high-quality tools and automations to support continuous delivery and developer productivity.

Skills Required

The Skills you’ll need

• Technical knowledge and awareness of Telco BSS, CRM and Order Management.

• Technical expertise in developing and operating a high volume critical business application. Preferably a previous Salesforce based implementation. Wider Opensource skills also desirable.

• Awareness and experience of the full Software Development Life Cycle and modern software engineering principles. Ideally on the Salesforce platform.

• Full versed in Software Development Concepts. Ideally in the context of a large scale Salesforce implementation.

• Experience of successfully leading a software engineering squad across multiple geographies and time zones to deliver high quality software though collaborative and agile ways of working.

• Experience of successfully leading an In Life team for a business critical application. Covering release quality gates, change, incident and problem management processes etc.

• The ability to train, coach and develop a team of junior software engineers.

•Experience in managing people through the full employee lifecycle in a software engineering environment, including succession planning & performance management.

Desirable skills

It is preferable you will already have Salesforce experience and some certifications in the following areas.

• Salesforce Administrator

• Salesforce Platform App Builder

• Salesforce Platform Developer I / II

• Salesforce Industries CPQ Developer

• Salesforce Industries Order Management

• Salesforce OmniStudio Developer or Consultant

• Salesforce Development Lifecycle and Deployment Architect

• Salesforce Integration Architect

• Salesforce Sharing and Visibility Architect

Learning and certification on the Salesforce platform will also be supported in post to an otherwise suitable candidate if required.
