Performs entry-level to highly skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. District Sign Tech. I: Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and standard practices and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.District Sign Tech. II-II: Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Essential Duties:District Sign Technician IAssists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions.Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.Measures and calculates amount(s) of materials needed.Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties.Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.Operates radios.Performs and maintains inventory of signs.Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck.Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic ControlDevices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. District Sign Technician II-in addition to the above:Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections to ensure reflectivity of signs, delineators, stripping, and retro reflective pavement markers (RPMs).Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.District Sign Technician III-in addition to the above:May assist in scheduling and assigning work. May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications. Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures. Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency situations/conditions.Inspects roadways to identify sign and delineator deficiencies and recommend repairs.
