State of Massachusetts SUMMER 24 Seasonal Environmental Service Spec III in Belchertown, Massachusetts

The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state park systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. DCR is a dynamic agency and is one of the largest park systems in the nation. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, golf courses, trails, and parkways. The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking qualified candidates for the seasonal Environmental Service Specialist III position for the Summer Season: May, 2024 to October 19, 2024. Please note, if you are selected for this position and will be working less than 90 days, the position will automatically revert to a short-term position. Our short-term positions are not part of the salary scale that is advertised within this job posting. Should this position revert to a short-term seasonal position (less than 90 days), your salary rate will be discussed with you during the interview phase of the process. DCR-Division of Water Supply Protection’s Quabbin-Ware River Region has seven occupied office buildings. The purpose of this position is to perform cleaning and related domestic services to the interior of these buildings. Incumbents will clean floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and washing; clean interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, and windows; clean lavatories and washrooms; empty waste receptacles; and perform related work as required. Facility Service Workers walk and stand for prolonged periods of time and lift and carry heavy objects. Incumbents will work varied shifts including weekends, holidays, and possibly nights.; Incumbents may be exposed to harmful chemicals, noxious fumes, dust, etc., and wet and slippery floors. Under the direction of the Institutional Maintenance Forman, or designees, the successful applicant: -Cleans floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment. -Cleans interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, windows, furniture, etc., by dusting, polishing, and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment. -Cleans toilets, lavatories, washrooms, mop closets, etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of such areas -Empties waste and recycling receptacles and dispose of properly Based on assignment, incumbents may: -Clean areas used for preparing and serving food. -Move and set up the furniture to prepare rooms for meetings and/or special functions -Load and unload vehicles -Perform theday-to-day operations necessary for the proper operation and function of the Administration Building wood-fired and oil-fired boiler systems, as needed. -Inspect assigned areas to determine that work has been performed according to established procedures. -Maintain records or logs on assigned unit activities -Provide on-the-job training and orientation to employees. -Examine completed work to ensure compliance with quality standards. -Other duties as required Qualifications -Ability to follow oral and written instructions. -Ability to understand and apply the policies, procedures, rules, regulations, etc. governing assigned unit activities -Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others. -Ability to deal tactfully with others. -Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. -Ability to lift and carry heavy objects. -Physical stamina and endurance. -Knowledge of the methods and techniques of institutional housekeeping. -Knowledge of the types and uses of materials and equipment used in institutional housekeeping. -Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed in institutional housekeeping. -Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise and understandable manner -Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates, and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action. 40 hours per week; Holidays and weekends required. Schedule - Tuesday- Saturday: 7 am to 3:30 pm. Sunday and Monday off *First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in building custodial or institutional housekeeping work and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
