Department Summary:

This position will work across L150 and MITRE to ensure that the communications technical capabilities offered by MITRE Labs meets the work program’s needs and that the products generated are of the highest technical quality.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the technical strength of the communications work program by shaping its content, participating in technical product definition and reviews, and bringing a perspective that reflects knowledge of the domain, understanding of the state of the art and practice in technology, and comprehension of MITRE and key external communities.

  • Support project leaders by ensuring that they are continuously and effectively leveraging MITRE’s communication capabilities and investments from across the corporation to maximize impact to our sponsors.

  • Lead L150 communications core competency. Identify the need for new capabilities to support the work program (e.g., modeling and simulation tools, laboratory facilities, technical training). Advocate for investment and lead/guide the development of them.

  • Identify opportunities for and lead/support development of new business, both internal to MITRE’s FFRDCs and directly via MITRE Labs.

  • Support MITRE’s internal research and development program (i.e., MIP). Identify and prioritize research and development needs. Work in partnership with staff to develop research proposals.

  • Play a key individual technical role on one or more projects within MITRE’s communication work program.

  • Lead and/or support the development and implementation of MITRE and L150’s communication strategy.

  • Work in close partnership and coordination with MITRE communications leaders (e.g., Program Division Management and Project Leaders) and Division/Department Chief Engineer(s).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field.

  • Experience with US government systems and US government research ecosystem.

  • Strong technical background and research experience in one or more communications technologies.

  • Willingness/passion for mentoring and developing technical staff.

  • Ability to work with sponsors to understand their use cases and formulate a path forward. Excellent oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to build consensus and partnerships across industry, academia, and sponsors to advance state of the art.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret or higher clearance

  • Publications in peer reviewed communications journals

  • External presence relevant to communications (e.g., conference events, articles, online interviews, social media)
