Nike Lead, North America Indirect Tax in Beaverton, Oregon

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an Indirect Tax Lead responsible for advising on tax controversy matters, managing risk, and driving strategic initiatives related to sales/use/GST, gross receipts, property, commercial rent taxes, and business licenses for the North American region. You will play a key role in defending against audits, performing tax research, assessing impacts from tax policy and business changes, and driving process improvements to create value-added solutions for the Global Tax Function.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

As the Indirect Tax Lead, you will serve as a point of contact for the Global Tax team, and have the opportunity to lead compliance process requirements, audit defense strategy, and other special projects. Critical support will be provided in:

  • Delivering solutions for business enablement and P&L savings while ensuring compliance with tax laws by utilizing technology solutions such as OneSource, SAP, Alteryx, and tax research tools

  • Identifying and assessing areas of concern and participating in remediation and contingency recommendations under ASC-450

  • Supporting tax expense forecasting in addition to the recovery of prior tax overpayments and work to minimize future tax expenses

  • Championing continued improvement and centralization of Indirect Tax operations, technology implementations and upgrades, and the execution plan for Nike’s strategic initiatives with tax implications

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH

This role reports to the Global Director of Indirect Tax and collaborates within and across Global Tax, Corporate Finance, Technology, and other business areas. You will guide Indirect Tax staff and external consultants while managing responses to State and Local Government inquiries.

WHAT YOU BRING TO NIKE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or IPT CMI certification preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Industry and/or Tax Accounting

  • Experience overseeing Multi-State Indirect Tax compliance functions and working in US Indirect Tax with a focus on audit defense and controversy management

  • Demonstrated understanding of complex tax concepts with the ability to complete legal research aapply interpretations to relevant fact patterns

  • Proficiency with SAP ERP, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint systems is a plus

  • Proven ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience, including meeting facilitation and presentations

  • Consistent track record in developing high-profile, influential, and collaborative relationships across teams, functions, and layers, preferably expansive of navigating a large corporation
