Position: Engineer Intern Applicant – Engineer 5

Agency: Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA)

Division: Operations – Baton Rouge

Office Location: 150 Terrace Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70802

For recruitment purposes, applicants who are within 90 days of graduating with an Engineering degree will be allowed to apply for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support to the Coastal Levee Boards and other Flood Control Entities in developing and implementing the coastal area levee inspection and evaluation program

  • Use of specialized technical engineering functions (Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, Hydraulics, etc.)

  • Conducts hurricane damage assessments and periodic on-site inspections of levees, floodwalls and associated infrastructure using specialized inspection equipment

  • Reviews design reports, plans and specifications

  • Monitors, maintains and updates project files and folders

  • Drafts correspondence directed to private owners, consulting engineers, local state and federal government agencies

As part of Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1, Engineer Intern 2, Engineer 3, Engineer 4, or Engineer 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for the Engineer 5 is $126,256 annually.

There are bi-weekly special entrance rates established for this position:

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE: This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

NOTE: Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed atwww.lapels.com

NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Concepts

FUNCTION OF WORK:

To apply scholastic theory and elementary engineering skills to a variety of tasks involving standard procedures and practices in the field, office, or laboratory in order to acquire practical experience for licensure.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Entry.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Close from a higher-level engineer.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Functional supervision may be exercised over Engineering Technicians.

LOCATION OF WORK:

May be used by all state agencies.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from Engineering Technicians and other related jobs by the presence of responsibility for applying engineering principles under close supervision.

Differs from Engineer Intern 1 by the absence of a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

Assists in economic justification studies for proposed engineering facilities and performs computations and analyses of cost-benefit engineering considerations.

Applies basic engineering formulas to routine calculations.

Assists with oversight of construction of structures such as: buildings, canals and locks, docks and piers, hydraulic structures, and other works.

Conducts on-site inspections of levees, floodwalls, pump stations, and associated infrastructures.
