Your Role and Responsibilities

The IBM Z Software Performance team is responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing stress workloads/benchmarks on the IBM Z and LinuxONE systems to ensure these systems meet customer expectations.

As a Software Performance Analyst/Tester you will design and create benchmarks and stress workloads, execute performance measurements with those benchmarks and workloads, analyze the performance measurements, and guide Hardware, Operating System, and Software Development teams on performance improvements collaborating with a global IBM team

Responsibilities:

Work on improving performance of Java and C/C++ compiler optimized for IBM Z Systems using cutting edge compilation technology. Collaborate with HW designers for future IBM Z Processors as well as SW Compiler developers' community to advance the frontiers and contribute to both fields. This position offers you a rare opportunity to influence the performance of hardware and software. The work is challenging and complex, involves collaboration with many of IBMs top technical experts, and gives opportunity to acquire and use advanced technical skills in a highly specialized area of computer engineering.

Job Duties

• Identify and analyze opportunities to maximize performance for compiled code

• Implement code changes to demonstrate hardware opportunities

• Develop plans to target various performance opportunities

• Work with the global team (POK, China, BOE, Toronto) to deliver innovations for optimal execution of code

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

6+ years of relevant industry experience

As an Individual developer

• Proficiency in Java, C and C++ programming languages

• Assembler programming experience

• Experience in analysing application performance

• Knowledge of programming languages, compilers and their implementation

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

Additional Skills

• Experience and knowledge of CPU architecture and micro-architecture concepts

• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Perl or Python

• LLVM compiler experience a plus, but not required
