<p><strong>Who We Are:</strong></p>

<p>Wayfair runs the largest custom e-commerce large parcel network in the United States, approximately 1.6 million square meters of logistics space. The nature of the network is inherently a highly variable ecosystem that requires flexible, reliable, and resilient systems to operate efficiently.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We are looking for a passionate Backend Software Engineer to join the Fulfillment Optimization team. This team builds the platforms that determine how customer orders are fulfilled, optimizing for Wayfair profitability and customer delight. A big part of our work revolves around enhancing and scaling customer-facing platforms that provide fulfillment information on our websites, starting at the top of the customer funnel on the search pages all the way through orders being delivered. Throughout this customer journey, we are responsible for maintaining an accurate representation of our dynamic supply chain, determining how different products will fit into boxes, predicting how these boxes will flow through warehouses and trucks, and ultimately surfacing the information our customers need to inform their decision and the details our suppliers and carriers require to successfully execute on the promises made to our customers. We do all of this in milliseconds, thousands of times per second.</p>

<p class="p2"><strong>What You Will Do:</strong></p>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Flex your strength and knowledge on Java, DevOps, and microservice development.</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s2">Define and </span><span class="s1">ensure services are built to industry best practices, including observability, architectural patterns, and inter-team dependency mechanisms (like SLOs)</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Work closely with architects and other teams across Storefront to breakdown an existing PHP monolith into well defined Java Microservices with clean boundaries and clear API contracts</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s2">Serve as the local technical lead</span><span class="s1"> in the critical domain, designing &amp; building a platform that interfaces with many different systems within and outside Wayfair and partner globally.</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s2">Architect and </span><span class="s1">write code to implement high-quality, scalable, future-proof services that will have effective system boundaries and will support long-term vision &amp; strategy</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Conduct technical debate across an entire platform and help come to durable documented conclusions</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Drive high-impact architectural solutions<span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp; </span>and hands-on development, including inception, design, execution, and delivery following good design and coding practices</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Obsessively focus on production readiness for the team including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and proactive troubleshooting</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet the department's technical vision</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Work closely with product managers, designers, and peer engineering teams to define project requirements and execution plans</span></li>

<p class="p2"><strong>What you bring to the table</strong></p>

<li class="li3"><span class="s2">6+</span><span class="s1"> years of experience in engineering, with a preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large-company experience<span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp;</span></span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">eComm domain expertise is a bonus</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Hands-on experience driving software transformations within high-growth environments at scale<span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp;</span></span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Experienced in architecting and building large-scale, cloud-based, and event-driven systems across various projects</span></li>

<li class="li3"><span class="s1">Excellent communication skills with demonstrated experience driving teams forward and ability to influence results</span></li>

<li class="li3">GCP target cloud platform, experience with AWS/Azure at scale</li>

<li class="li3">Distributed microservice architectures with well architected domain boundaries</li>

<li class="li3">High volume async messaging architectures</li>

<li class="li3">Large scale relational and NoSQL style data stores</li>

<li class="li3">Common open source platforms, tools and framework, eg: Kafka, Kubernetes, Containerization, Java microservices, GraphQL APIs, Aerospike etc</li>
