The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) Office of Highway Development – Highway Hydraulics Division is currently recruiting for a Senior Water Resources Engineer (Transportation Design Engineer V) in Baltimore City. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

Nature of Work: The main purpose of the Senior Water Resources Engineer is to function as a team leader in the Highway Hydraulics Division and perform duties as a licensed professional engineer. This position leads a team of specialized hydrologic and hydraulic engineers responsible for designing, analyzing, and reviewing drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, and erosion and sediment control measures for roadway, sidewalk, shared-use path, bridge, and facility projects. The design team may also design drainage improvement projects such as outfall rehabilitation, stream stabilization and restoration, storm drain and culvert enhancements, and stormwater management retrofit projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license, in the appropriate option, is required. Evidence of license must be presented at the time of appointment.

Experience: One (1) year of experience managing engineering projects as a licensed, professional engineer.

Selective Qualification: Two (2) years of water resources or environmental engineering design experience including one (1) year project management experience related to highway drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, drainage outfall channel stabilization, or stream restoration.

*A Selective Qualification is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective Qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability).

Licenses & Certifications

Candidates must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.
