Microsoft’s Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth. Our mission is to deliver the world’s computer with an industry-leading supply chain. CSCP is responsible for strategic sourcing, customer demand forecasting, capacity planning and management, supply chain planning and execution, capacity provisioning, and decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide.

The Capacity, Supply Chain & Provisioning Engineering (CSCP-E) group within Azure is an exciting and fast evolving engineering group within Microsoft that powers Microsoft’s Cloud-First mission. Azure is going through hyper growth with an expectation to grow 10x in near future. We are responsible for designing, building and operating Microsoft Azure’s cloud infrastructure. The Principal Architect, Capacity, Supply Chain & Provisioning Engineering (CSCP-E) , will help define our overall software architecture, interaction between first- and third-party software, and a create a roadmap for a complex set of systems that help execute on our mission and enable true differentiation.

Responsibilities

  • Capably collaborate and influence across organizational lines.

  • Be a self-starter with a demonstrated track record of providing technology vision and driving them through.

  • Play a key role in helping the leadership team with technical strategy as well as guide technology investments in highly ambiguous and exploratory areas.

  • Work with engineering leaders to build an end-end product architecture and drive consistency and simplifications to our product workflows.

  • Dive into individual problem areas and guide the engineering team by making recommendations and best approaches.

  • Report to the Engineering Manager overseeing the architecture and vision for a geographically distributed team of 50+ engineers across all experience levels.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of software development experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 10+ years of software development experience

  • Additional skills:

  • Computer science foundation

  • Problem solving and analytical skills

  • Communication skills – written, oral as well as presentation skills

  • Ability to engage with all levels of software engineers, business partners as well as leadership

  • Ability to lead/influence without authority

  • Can-do attitude and ability to go deep in unfamiliar technology areas

  • Ability to engage w/ data scientists and operations researchers

  • Exceptional ability in defining product architecture and strategy

  • Solid track record of delivering services and/or shipping products

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
