The Goldsmith Laboratory is recruiting a research specialist to join our laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics, Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center (Solid Tumors) at Emory University. The PI’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of chemo- and immunotherapy resistance in the pediatric solid tumor, neuroblastoma, and translating novel tumor-directed therapeutics into the clinic. Training and career development opportunities will be provided for highly motivated candidates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.

  • Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.

  • May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.

  • Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.

  • Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.

  • Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.

ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under general supervision, follows laboratory protocols to perform a variety of defined molecular biology research techniques.

  • Sets up and efficiently executes experiments designed by principal investigator and research team with minimal oversight.

  • Maintains detailed records, files, and logs documenting experimentation.

  • Compiles data and experimental findings for publications, grants, and presentations.

  • Performs research related responsibilities as required by principal investigator and laboratory team.

  • Monitors laboratory processes to maintain standard operating procedures and quality assurance standards.

  • Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

  • Duties will include mouse handling and basic in vivo procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICIATIONS:

  • The preferred candidate will have a degree in biology or related field.

  • Candidates with demonstrated expertise in immunology and/or technical experience in molecular biology or immunology techniques will be prioritized.

  • Animal handling experience is strongly desired as the successful appointee will be required to perform animal experiments.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
