The Alaka’ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a need for a Health Communications Specialist to support our government customer out of Atlanta, Georgia.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write, develop, edit, and plan scientific content for social media messages that effectively communicate key messages and findings to a diverse audience for food, water, and environmental topics.

  • Add social media content into Sprout Social for scheduling.

  • Pull and analyze metrics for social media and newsletters.

  • Write and organize content from stakeholders for division internal and external newsletters. Design experience is preferred.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop content based on audience research.

  • Draft and edit emails for various scientific campaigns, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to CDC guidelines.

  • Perform general communications specialist tasks as needed, including drafting reports, press releases, and other content.

  • Collaborate with staff and web developers across the division to make sure the internal division website is updated with the most current information for staff, including but not limited to, organizational charts, staffing changes, and useful resources.

  • Collaborate with CDC researchers, editors, and other stakeholders to ensure all content is accurate and aligned with organizational goals.

  • Build relationships with staff at the division and center levels of the organization as well as with the Office of Communications.

  • Stay current with emerging infectious diseases research and public health communications trends.

  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

    REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

    BS in Communications, Journalism, Public Health, or a related field

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in scientific communications or a related field.

  • Proven ability to translate complex scientific information into plain language (i.e., clear, engaging, and accurate content).

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.

  • Experience with content creation for various platforms, including multimedia, social media, web, and email campaigns.

  • Excellent organizational and time and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

    DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior CDC, public health, or healthcare experience is desired.

  • Experience with marketing, public relations, or public health communications is desired.

  • Knowledge and experience in communicating about foodborne, waterborne, and fungal diseases, and food safety topics are desired.

  • Experience working on communication projects, channels, or campaigns targeted to specific audiences is desired.

  • Experience planning, implementing, or analyzing results from formative research to inform communications efforts is desired.

    REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

    Must be able to pass a background investigation.
