The Department of Pathology is looking for a data scientist to assist in various informatics projects involving image analysis of large whole slide images.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Data Scientist is responsible for mining and analyzing data from various internal and external data sources to drive optimization and improvement of operations, clinical outcomes, and business strategies.

  • Works with stakeholders throughout the organization to drive business solutions and are adept at using large data sets and models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action using predictive algorithms.

  • They assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.

  • Data Scientist is an expert in at least 1 programming language (e.g. R, SAS, Python), has proficiency in statistical theory and underlying mathematical distributions, and expertise in querying relational databases with SQL.

  • They have experience with of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and can demonstrate real-world application of these techniques.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • The candidate will be responsible for mining and analyzing data from several large imaging data sets, focusing on a diverse set of medical image analysis problems related to neurodegenerative diseases and cancer biology.

  • The scientist will work with a variety of stakeholders throughout the organization as well as national and international collaborators to develop and validate image analysis pipelines as part of our work.

  • Qualified candidates will have mastery of Python, and proficiency in statistical approaches, and expertise in querying relational databases with SQL.

  • Additionally, they will have proficiency in a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.), software platforms (pyTorch and/or tensorFlow), and can demonstrate real-world application of these techniques.

  • Experience working with DICOM data, python and the linux operating system are required.

  • In addition, working knowledge of current machine learning technologies, and image processing / image analysis libraries in Python ( OpenCV, SciKit-Image ) are required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or another quantitative field and 3 years of relevant experience.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
