Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation is responsible for designing, building, and operating our unified global datacenters, managing the supply planning and capacity utilization of our unified infrastructure, and is responsible for all of the operations needed to run the physical infrastructure (including supply chain, hardware, power, security, and workflow teams).

To help customers achieve their goals, Azure continues to build the largest global footprint of any Cloud provider. The CO+I (Infrastructure, Planning & Acquisitions) IPA Long-Range Planning Data Science team delivers Microsoft’s Long Range Infrastructure plan using state of the art econometric/ML models, risk simulations and business intelligence. We are hiring an Applied Scientist to focus on building a cutting edge system to host econometric/ ML demand and capacity need models. Additionally, they will have to be able to leverage their software engineering skills to connect to various upstream and downstream systems ensuring the forecasting plan matches the execution.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Azure DevOps (ADO) pipelines, maintain Azure Assets (subscription, blob storage, sql database, key vault, etc.) in a secure and compliant manner

  • Connect to and build APIs for turning data science models into a full production system

  • Apply their expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to develop demand forecasting models

  • Understand fundamental business dynamics impacting demand, and develop automated analytical solutions for demand planning

  • Ability to develop E2E models in R/ Python – including data manipulation, model building and business applications

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field

  • OR equivalent experience

Other Requirements:

These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sound communication and leadership skills to drive projects and build buy-in and support. 

  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing a business-critical function. 

  • Technical certifications relevant to data analysis/BI

Applied Sciences IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
