Ohio University Staff Counselor - 10 month term in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

This is a 10 month-Term generalist counselor position responsible for providing mental health services to student clients at Counseling and Psychological Services, including after-hours emergency, and engaging in outreach programming. This position works closely with D&I offices (Multicultural Center, Pride Center, Women’s Center, Office of Inclusion at HCOM , and D&I main office) as well as collaborate with other campus units such as the Division of Student Affairs and academic affairs with a special focus on addressing mental health concerns of marginalized student population. This position has training and experience in working with underrepresented student populations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Provide individual, couple and group counseling, conduct initial intake and triage assessments and psycho-diagnostic assessments, crisis interventions, and after-hours’ response. Be inclusive, equity-oriented, and diversity-aware. We seek a professional committed to working with people holding similar and different worldviews while advocating for inclusion of all persons. Complete clinical documentation and clinical preparation.

  2. This position works in collaboration with the D&I offices of Multicultural Center, Pride Center, Women’s Center, Office of Inclusion at HCOM and other related programs within the office of D&I to develop strategic initiatives to address mental health needs of minority students. Regular contact with the directors of these offices, planning and implementing mental health related programming to students affiliated with these offices, being available to provide mental health consultation to these offices and work closely with CPS staff in treatment collaborations.

  3. Supervise and evaluate clinical work of doctoral and/or masters interns and trainees. Advance cultural competency of trainees and supervisees. Provide outreach programming, consultation, committee work primarily with D&I Offices

  4. Attend weekly clinical and staff meetings and participate in committees within and outside the center. Participate in the Center and Division Diversity and Social Justice initiatives

Decisions of the CPS staff are governed by ethics and standards of professional practice; licensing requirements of the State of Ohio; Ohio University policies and procedures; CPS policies and procedures; and HIPAA Standards. A background check is required. Start date is negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Master’s degree from an accredited Counseling, Social Work or Psychology programs. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience and interest in providing psychological services to diverse populations including persons of color, international students, non-traditional students, veterans, persons with disabilities and LGBTQ populations, training in providing individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and psychological assessment of college or adult population, experience providing supervision to Psychology/Counseling/Social Work trainees or in a related field. A doctorate degree in counseling or related field is preferred.
