Advocates Respite Shift Leader in Ashland, Massachusetts

Overview

Starting Rate: $30/hour

The Respite Shift Leader is a temporary positon until 3/31/2025.

The Respite Shift Leader is responsible for planning activities for individuals and small groups at our Respite Options Weekend Clubhouse, which is drop off respite programming. The Shift Lead provides 1:1 or 2:1 support to individuals living with behavioral and/or physical disabilities that require behavioral redirection and/or assistance with daily living skills such as toileting, ambulation, and changing. The focus is to promote opportunities for individuals to interact with one another whether by initiating activities with peers, making a simple snack, cleaning up after activities or just having friendly encounters while trying to engage the individuals’ interests. The respite program activities may include arts and crafts, exercise, games, music, reading. The goal of the Respite Shift Leader is to work with the individuals and the staff onsite to ensure that the program provides a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment for attendees and families.

0-19 hours per week depending on the needs of the program

Responsibilities

  1. Plan and implement program activities that will foster individual’s growth, address goals, and apply developed skills both in the home and in the community.

  2. Teach daily living skills such as safety rules, travel training, cooking, and social skills.

  3. Provides support to individuals in daily, personal, and social contexts.

  4. Provides support to staff in implementing the programs.

  5. Develop positive relationships with families and provide support implementing the goals for individual.

  6. Attend training, supervisions and staff meetings as assigned.

  7. Mentor and support staff onsite, including supporting staff with behavioral needs of participants.

  8. Ensure that individuals we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates’ Human Rights Policy

  9. Perform all duties in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures.

  10. Adhere to all principles related to the Advocates Way.

Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree in a related field such as education or psychology and/or at least four years of relevant experience in working on skills development with individuals with developmental disabilities.

  2. Experience in Applied Behavioral Analysis preferred but not required.

  3. Experience developing, writing, implementing, and evaluating individual behavioral programs.

  4. Strongly prefer that a candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.

  5. Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  6. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and ability to use good judgment.

  7. Must have basic working computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word and Excel

  8. Sensitivity to the needs of the population.

  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  10. High energy level, superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.

  11. Must hold a valid drivers’ license. Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport consumers.
