Job Description:

The Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO) team is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to guide a team of engineers in the evaluation and improvement of cooling solutions within our gas turbine airfoils. You will mentor junior engineers and help guide their efforts nurturing their growth and success. The candidate will be a durability program head on products ranging from the latest commercial engines to advanced military applications. You will be the primary interface between production and management which will require excellent communication skills, cultural awareness and an innate drive for constant improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for mentoring and technically guiding a team of structures/durability engineers in creating and assessing cooling designs for advanced, actively-cooled gas turbine airfoils in support of manufacturing and post-certification.

  • Guide engineers in performing heat transfer, fluid flow, structural, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and optimization analyses.

  • Responsible for mission life and validation analyses.

  • Effectively work with the Durability management team to define, support and execute technology plans, establish standard work methodologies, and design system enhancements. ​

Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

  • 10+ years of design experience or 7+ years of the prior experience with an advanced degree

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access the financial management system due to government contractual requirements

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in the design of convective and film cooled airfoils, from concept initiation through field validation.

  • Experience in Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamics.

  • Knowledge in Material Science, Statistics, Lifing and Weibull Analysis.

  • Ability to head a Turbine Durability Technology Development Program and support cross-disciplinary teams.

  • Knowledge of airfoil lifing failure modes and mission life modeling, including environmental effects, for typical airfoil limiting modes such as oxidation, creep, corrosion and TMF (Thermal Mechanical Fatigue).

  • 3 years technically guiding and mentoring aero-thermal engineers.

Onsite : Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility

This requisition is eligible for an employee referral award. ALL eligibility requirements must be met to receive the referral award.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
