City Of Arvada Plant Operator C in Arvada, Colorado

Position Purpose The City of Arvada promotes Equal Pay for Equal Work. Starting salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity. The range listed reflects the entire range and typical placement is entry to mid- range.

Responsible for the operation of the water treatment plants in accordance with all state and federal regulations to produce clean, high-quality potable drinking water that meets all aspects of the Safe Drinking Water Act. Job Functions / Scope of Authority

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs and monitors intermediate level treatment plant operations and maintenance to ensure the production of high quality potable drinking water.

Uses initiative, judgment and good decision making within the limited scope of assigned authority.

Assists in the training of new treatment plant employees in all aspects of water treatment plant operations.

Assist with treatment plant tours, chemical inventory and ordering and plant inspections.

Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment.

Operates assigned equipment and hand tools, including but not limited to: laboratory and analytical testing instruments, chemical feeders and plant operations computer systems.

Informs chief plant operator, plant operator "A" or "B" of any system repair needs.

Responds to citizen/customer concerns and forwards to the appropriate division/employees in a timely manner.

Responds to emergency situations as needed, whether in the regular scheduled work shift or after hour's coverage.

Performs plant maintenance as directed, assigned or needed.

Possession of a valid Colorado Class C water treatment certification.

Completes required training units as approved by the State of Colorado to maintain certification to meet City of Arvada policies.

Keeps and maintains mandated reports to comply with state federal drinking water regulation.

Possession of a valid Colorado driver license.

Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards customers and coworkers that promotes teamwork, open communication, and effective customer service.

Acts with the customer in mind, responds to requests promptly and provides effective services or solutions for customers.

Exercises appropriate level of initiative and judgment to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of water treatment plant operations, practices, principals and maintenance.

Knowledge in the use of the equipment and chemicals used in water treatment.

Knowledge of water treatment principles and plant equipment.

Knowledge of state and federal drinking water regulations.

Knowledge of computer hardware and software utilized in plant operations.

Knowledge of city safety policies and procedures.

Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of personnel within the city and citizens in a positive, cooperative and professional manner.

Ability to adapt and change priorities in order to meet treatment plant and customer needs.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY: Receives general supervision from the chief plant operator. The chief plant operator establishes daily priorities. Detailed but easy to understand procedures cover all duties. Sometimes guidance may be needed to handle irregular situations.
