Position Description The Anoka County Finance department's mission is to enrich our community by providing quality services and assuring financial integrity. The Finance department has an immediate opening for an Accountant who prepares financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded. This position is responsible for the maintenance of financial records ensuring compliance with governmental standards and internal policies and procedures. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include a solid working knowledge of subject matter, handling moderately complex issues and problems associated with accounting related to payroll, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. This is a full-time, exempt, hybridposition. First-round interviews will take place on June 24th, 2024, and second-round interviews will take place on June 27th, 2024, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. The anticipated start date is July 2024. Pay & Benefits Salary: $60,819.20 to $72,966.40 ($29.24 to $35.08 per hour). 2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: $60,819.20 to $85,113.60 ($29.24 to $40.92 per hour). 24 days of paid flexible time off and up to 12.5 paid holidays. Advancement/professional development opportunities. Work Location This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303. This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office. Expected work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Accountant. Maintain a working knowledge of federal and state statutes and laws relating to payroll. Testing of changes to payroll related items in Workday. Review and approve changes of employee costing allocations and submit corrections as needed. Prepare, review, and submit quarterly state and federal reports for taxes and unemployment and resolve any outstanding items. Assist with resolving tax-related discrepancies and other outstanding items such as remote employees working out of Minnesota. Serve as a backup to the preparation, reviewal, and submission of payroll on a bi-weekly basis and for supplemental payments (as needed) for the County. Handle confidential information relating to all aspects of payroll functions. Post correcting journal entries related to payroll. Maintain financial records and ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded. Ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. End-of-year related duties, including W-2 preparation. Prepare and understand financial reports. Provide customer service to the employees of Anoka County and external v ndors related to payroll matters. Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of job-related experience. In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field. Possess a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) license. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial systems and county organization and operation and ability to apply that knowledge. Ability to analyze, develop and interpret rules, regulations, policies, and practices. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Standard office environment Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds. Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs. Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment. Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
