Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description
The Phlebotomist aims to serve patients by preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards. The Phlebotomist shall draw quality blood samples while creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence.
Responsibilities
Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, and updating patient information.
Greet customers appropriately and treat all customers in a courteous manner.
Collect specimens according to established procedures and properly explain in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
Reduce patient anxiety by providing a calm environment for patients before, during, and after the collection process.
Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures as outlined by the specific protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
Venipuncture
Phlebotomy certification
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced environment or hospital setting
Must have certification
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting and 0-2 years of experience.
Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience and a valid driver's license issued in the state of residence.
Must be willing to travel throughout assigned geography about 100% of the time.
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This is a high-volume site with over 200 patients daily, and the Phlebotomist will be expected to stick 90% of them.
