Summary

The University of MichiganTaubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning (http://taubmancollege.umich.edu/) seeks tenure-track faculty at any rank to develop field-defining research and teaching in urban technology and design in ourBachelor of Science in Urban Technology (https://taubmancollege.umich.edu/urban-planning/degrees-certificates/bachelor-science-urban-technology) program. You have expertise in design, technology development, and urban and geospatial analytics. You will join a dynamic cohort of faculty in the Urban and Regional Planning Program, which also includes the Master of Urban and Regional Planning and Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning programs.

The primary teaching for this position will be within the core curriculum of the B.S. in Urban Technology program, which includes three sequences of required coursework in cities, technology, and design. We especially seek applicants qualified to teach within the required design sequence, which integrates methodologies from multiple design traditions including visual communication, data visualization, interaction design, service design, strategic design, and the design and analysis of urban systems. You may also teach new electives that contribute to overall program goals. The standard teaching load at Taubman College is four courses peryear, and all teaching will occur in person in Ann Arbor.

This search is being conducted in coordination with a practice-track search in urban technology. Multiple hires may be made from either or both of these searches.

Required Qualifications*

  • Terminal degree from a related technical or design discipline, such as design, urban planning, architecture, digital media, human-computer interaction, geography, engineering, or information science.

  • Demonstrated experience in, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Demonstrated experience in, or demonstrated potential to, conduct research in the area of urban technology and design.
