Ahtna, Inc. Traffic Control Supervisor - Union - Ahtna Construction and Primary Products in Anchorage, Alaska

Summary

This position will be based in Alaska and will primarily be a Field Assignment Position. This position will report to the corresponding superintendent or project manager. Position requires the ability to operate heavy construction equipment, such as excavators, dozers, compactors, wheel loaders, tractors, and forklifts, and to properly utilize general construction tools. Directly supervises and coordinates activities of field personnel and subcontractors during field activities and assists in general labor activities. This is a full-time seasonal position.

The pay rate for this position is the Local Union Rate. Out of state Union workers are invited to apply. Out of state non-Union workers are encouraged to apply, you will need to join the Union upon hire.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • Determine a traffic routing plan particular to the job site that is in compliance with regulations and can be used effectively during working hours.
  • Creating and maintaining Traffic Control Plans, if applicable.
  • Coordinates flagging duties of flaggers on the job site.
  • Must be able to perform all aspects of the job and train others in all aspects as well.
  • Sets up job site signs, cones, drums, etc., and breaks down at the end of the job. Cleans up the job site, including devices and applicable vehicles.
  • Direct traffic by using a sign paddle appropriately.
  • Performs No Park Coordinator duties as needed, including setting up and removing no park signs, evaluating job sites for potential problems, communicating with the office, etc.
  • Solves problems as they arise and calls the Superintendent for assistance if unable to resolve a problem. Discusses problems arising with the crew with the Superintendent of that crew.
  • Performs laborer duties as needed.
  • Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports.
  • Monitor job site for hazards, maintain a safe working environment, and take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions.
  • Possess good communication skills as well as taking direction from staff.
  • Maintain constant awareness of surroundings and recognize job site-specific hazards.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of traffic control experience.
  • Experience working within compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor, Traffic Control Technician, or similar certification
  • Flagger Certification
  • Basic personnel management techniques in order to instruct site personnel on compliance with ACPPC's worksite safety and health plan.
  • Valid Driver's License w/ Medical Card
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Traffic Control Supervisor position
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Knowledge of worksite safety and health regulations, OSHA guidelines, and basic personnel management techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures.

Physical Demands

  • Must be capable of repeatedly lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching may be required.
  • Walking on uneven terrain/surfaces.
  • Work in outside conditions that may include inclement weather.

Work Environment

  • May be subject to construction site conditions, changes in temperature, extreme ambient weather conditions, and noise levels.

Work Schedule: Monday through Saturday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Overtime is anticipated and may be required
