Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Graphic Design, in the College of Design at Iowa State University (ISU), invites applications for the position of Professor of Practice. The appointment for this position is anticipated to begin August 16, 2024 and the initial length of the appointment will be one academic year (August 16, 2024 – May 15, 2025) in length, has the potential for renewal, and is not tenure-eligible.
The department seeks applicants who can demonstrate an interest and ability to teach in all areas of graduate and undergraduate graphic design. The successful candidate will have a strong spirit of collaboration and be committed to interdisciplinary teaching and dialogue.
The candidate is expected to contribute to the teaching missions at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should have strong communication skills, share our commitment to enhancing excellence, and exhibit the potential for long-term leadership in supporting the mission of the department, college, and university.

Minimum Required Qualifications
- MFA in graphic design; or BFA in graphic design + master's degree in a related discipline; or BFA in graphic design + 5 years' professional experience;
Preferred Qualifications
20 years or more of nationally recognized contributions to scholarly pursuits as well as professional practice experience;
At least ten years of developing and teaching graphic design courses.
Nationally recognized ability to teach design processes, design research, and design methodology as part of the creative process.
Substantial track record of national leadership in graphic design.
About the Graphic Design Department
The Department of Graphic Design is part of ISU’s College of Design, along with Departments of Architecture, Art and Visual Cultures, Community and Regional Planning, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. The Department offers a NASAD-accredited BFA in Graphic Design, an MA in Experiential Graphic Design, and an MFA in Graphic Design. The department enrolls 275 undergraduate and over 25 graduate students, all of whom engage in both traditional and emerging technologies and are prepared to become leaders in the field of visual communication.
