Ford Motor Company Embedded Hardware Engineer in Allen Park, Michigan
The ideal candidate will move quickly into technical oversight of ongoing electronics analog/mixed signal hardware design efforts across multiple embedded hardware development initiatives. The position will have cross functional responsibilities, primarily focused on creating analog/mixed signal PCB schematics, layout, BOM’s and wiring harness design. As part of day-to-day responsibilities, the individual is expected to create new designs for upcoming technologies while concurrently supporting existing deployed solutions. Programming/scripting experience in the embedded domain will be a plus. This is a hybrid work environment position. The candidate will be expected to work onsite for a 3-4 days per week and to effectively collaborate when working remotely.

Design state-of-the-art embedded hardware incorporating complex analog and mixed signal circuits for microcontroller/FPGA based embedded electronics.
Lead conception and development of high-speed mixed signal electronic products (defining topology, schematic, components selection etc.) and defining PCB layout strategies.
Leverage PCB design tools to design and validate hardware/software configurations for upcoming design ideas and define product specifications to meet customer needs.
Research product standards and requirements for state-of-the-art technologies, drive component selection and benchmark competitive products.
Review component and hardware documentation (bill of materials, schematics, drawings, datasheets, and notes etc.) from suppliers to perform analysis/design feasibility.
Create design documentation throughout the product lifecycle including but not limited to product ideations, prototyping, manufacturing and post launch test and support.
Create and execute electrical test plans for design verification, support performance characterization of new designs in a cross functional role.
Coordinate prototyping of product designs, wiring harnesses, PCBs and electromechanical components including in-house assembly and prototyping.
Work with vendors and suppliers to execute new product launches, resolve production issues, and help perform acceptance testing of production intent designs.
Attend design review meetings and provide technical feedback create safety and quality procedures that are governed by applicable quality/safety standards.
Prepare product proposals of new design concepts for potential use-cases.
Support and troubleshoot user reported hardware related issues, maintain existing hardware designs, troubleshoot performance issues, and perform root cause analysis of failures for existing, deployed products and platforms.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant industry experience in electronics circuit design and board layout.
5+ years of experience and a deep understanding and demonstrated ability to design high speed analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics circuits.
5+ years of experience and a high level of knowledge in use of EDA CAD PCB design software to create schematic and layouts for digital/mixed signal circuit elements. Candidate should be able to demonstrate (via experience) ability to create board layouts for high-speed mixed signal schematics and layouts.
5+ years of experience and a high level of knowledge with generation of BOM and Gerber files etc. to develop part symbols footprints etc. for BGA/Surface mount and through hole components.
5+ years of experience and a high level of knowledge in routing single / multi-layer PCBs with impedance-controlled, blind / buried vias, differential signal pairs, matching length traces etc.
5+ years of experience and a high level of knowledge designing interfaces across analog and digital peripherals for embedded micro-controllers/FPGAs/GPUs.
5+ years of experience and a high level of knowledge in power circuit analysis, such as worst-case circuit analysis, failure mode analysis for system reliability.
Proficient with signal integrity and medium/high-speed time and frequency domain testing using oscilloscopes and signal analyzers.
Ability to perform hand soldering / electrotechnical rework for circuit boards and wiring harnesses
Familiarity with existing electronics industry supply chains, material sourcing/manufacturing of PCB components etc.
Exposure to product pre/post launch support and end of life product life cycle is expected.
Some exposure to programming/scripting in C/C++/Python/bash.
Understanding of PCB layout and circuit design requirements for low speed (I2C/UART) and high speed (PCIe, LVDS) is expected.
Preferred Requirements:
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant industry experience in electronics circuit design and board layout.
