Job Summary:

AIS is looking for a Lab Technician II to work in Albuquerque, NM. The Environmental Systems Biology Department, located in Albuquerque, NM, is a diverse research group with a focus on both basic and applied biological and materials science research. We seek to address challenges related to national security, including biodefense and health security, and climate and energy security. Our department is part of a highly multidisciplinary center, comprised of researchers with expertise across the fields of biology (molecular biology, microbiology, virology, immunology, and biochemistry), chemistry (analytical, organic, and physical), computational science (bioinformatics, machine learning, and computational chemistry), and engineering (chemical, mechanical, and biomedical). Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains algal, bacterial, and/or phage cultures on plates and in liquid medium

  • Maintains mammalian and other eukaryotic cell cultures

  • Isolates and quantifies DNA or RNA and perform PCR

  • Clones DNA into vectors

  • Evaluates effects of various treatments on cell survival, growth and other characteristics

  • Analyzes results to inform new experiments and analyses

  • Performs microscopy

  • Works on a wide range of research projects

  • Learns experimental protocols to carry out laboratory work safely

  • Follows procedures to make buffers and reagents as required for experimental needs

  • Assists in experiment execution to meet project milestones

  • Catalogs research in an electronic lab notebook and presents work in lab meetings

  • Aids in the maintenance of the laboratory and daily lab operations

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field

  • Must be a US citizen

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance

  • Able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy

  • Previous experience working in a biological laboratory

  • Experience with aseptic technique and microbiology

Desired Qualifications:

  • Eagerness to learn new skills in biochemistry and molecular biology

  • Strong written and communication skills, as demonstrated by publications, presentations, and confirmed by professional and/or academic references

Physical Demands:

  • If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sub-contractor, you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

  • If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sub-contractor, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
