Position Summary: JMT of New York, Inc., is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Biologist who will be responsible for using knowledge of plant identification, wetland restoration and ecosystems to plan studies, perform/supervise field efforts, interpret data, organize results, and prepare reports. Some field work may be conducted at Federal Superfund Cleanup Program sites. OSHA Health and Safety Training (as necessary) will be provided. U.S. Residency Required.

Compensation is $40.00/hour and is commensurate with experience and education.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Senior level consulting biologist to perform vegetation and cover type mapping, wetland delineations, wetland mitigation monitoring, invasive plant documentation, report writing, and community/plant surveys.

  • Travel to project sites in the Adirondack and Saint Lawrence region in New York State to collect field data, as required.

  • Use digital aerial photography and computer mapping (e.g., ArcInfo/ArcView) to support studies.

  • Document methodologies and findings of field investigations, including professional field notes and logs.

  • Analyze and manage data received from field investigations; evaluate site conditions and impacts relative to appropriate standards or guidance.

  • Contribute to environmental technical reports, impact assessments, environmental inspection reports, and similar reports.

  • Coordinate with team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and quality objectives.

Required SkillsRequired Experience

  • Graduate degree in environmental science and or biology with a specialty in plant ecology and wetland restoration from an accredited college/university

  • Good Written and Oral Communication Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred Experience

  • Doctorate degree in environmental science or biology with a specialty in ecosystem study or botany from an accredited college/university

  • Field experience with ecological systems in the Adirondack and St. Lawrence River region in New York State

  • Wetlands delineation, restoration experience

  • Publications in Peered Review Journals

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment approximately 75% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion; work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Field work will require walking and carrying field equipment over typical outdoor terrain. Some lifting (up to 25lbs) may be required as needed.
