The Director of Prospect Research and Analytics provides leadership and strategic direction in support of the Foundation’s fundraising goals through proactive and creative identification and evaluation of individual and organizational prospects. The Director will seek out ways to identify new prospects, provide high quality research to validate capacity, offer indication of donor inclination, and inform prospect ratings and projected ask amounts.

The Director will provide analysis of development officer portfolios and provide guidance to development office staff in prioritizing prospects and determining appropriate ask amounts. The Director is expected to be both an individual contributor to projects and to provide management for the program.

Salary Range: $100,528.00 - $165,872.00

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Leadership:

  • Support fundraising efforts by developing and refreshing a robust and dynamic prospect pyramid that reflects a proactive and aggressive approach to prospect identification and qualification.

  • Initiate prospect pool development (identification and qualification) in support of Foundation fundraising goals.

  • Conduct analysis of development officer portfolios and provide guidance to development office staff in prioritizing prospects and determining appropriate ask amounts.

  • Prepare bios, briefings, and snapshots on prospects in advance of events, visits, strategy meetings, etc.

  • Continue to help shape the grateful patient fundraising initiative by managing and validating the monthly screening results for the grateful patient program and determining when to invest in prospect research based on the screening results.

  • Ensure that System leadership and development officers are prepared for travel (e.g. to high level prospect visits, tours, dean’s events, alumni association events, etc.) with research as appropriate for various activities including cultivation, solicitation, prospect speculation, etc.

  • Represent the prospect research effort in meetings with Albany Med Health System leadership, including CEO, Dean, as well as Development Committee members.

  • Provide as needed analysis to drive strategy around various Foundation initiatives.

  • Seek out and implement technological solutions/software applications to ensure that the research effort is on the cutting edge of efficiency and thoroughness.

  • Provide responsible oversight of departmental budget to ensure maximum return on various research tools and subscriptions.

  • Conduct wealth screenings as needed and import results into Raiser’s Edge, ResearchPoint, and associated Blackbaud products as related to prospect management.

  • Develop and implement office-wide training on Raiser’s Edge and associated Blackbaud products as related to prospect management.

  • Work in partnership with gift processing team to maintain, update, and format prospect records, biographical information, and files.

  • Develop thorough documentation of program policies and procedures.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and uphold the integrity of the database.

  • As a member of the Albany Medical Center Foundation, extend help and support as required for events (which may occur during non-business hours) or other projects.

Qualification Requirements:

The Director must demonstrate a thorough understanding of prospect research and the ability to conduct and share analysis on individual prospect portfolios and opportunities within the entire prospect pool. The ideal candidate will have experience with large scale wealth screening projects and proficiency with RE/NXT (or comparable CRM). The Director must be familiar with various research tools, be resourceful in seeking out information, and skilled in communicating with Albany Med Health System colleagues and external constituents. Must also be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, written and oral.

Education, Experience:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a field that shows evidence of academic research and communication skills. Affiliation with/certification by relevant professional organizations demonstrates a commitment to the field. The Director of Prospect Research and Analysis will have three to five years of experience in prospect research in a non-profit setting, preferably in higher education or healthcare. Experience with fundraising and prospect tracking software packages required. Familiarity with the Blackbaud suite of products is helpful.
