Job Description:

Departmental Communications. Develop and implement a total communications strategy (digital, written, web based, social media) to support department and state-wide communication initiatives and events. Produce content and graphics and work with UF/IFAS communications on projects and assets to promote the department to the public. To include the following platforms and outlets: website (CMS: Terminal 4), social media content development and campaigns (Facebook, X, Instagram), videos (YouTube), and video production, listserv management, graphics (Adobe & Canva), regular digest emails and newsletters to the public, and photographic media (Adobe).

Crop Transformation Center (CTC). Create a communication strategy for the CTC, manage website, social media, and written communication to publicize CTC. Provides advice and expertise on all communications formats to ensure clarity and accuracy of the CTC communications initiatives.

Written Communications. Create and manage content for various written communication products and outlets including brochures, memos, reports, and other collateral.

Student Engagement. Work with unit leaders to engage students in the priorities of the department.

Metrics and reporting. Create and evaluate strategies for communication impact and for adherence to best practices. Ensure adherence to UF and IFAS branding and accessibility guidelines and requirements.

Overall Departmental Support. Seek direction from unit leaders and stakeholders to provide actionable recommendations to promote the department to the public.

Demonstrate commitment to contributing to a respectful and caring community for all, including individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, races, ethnicity, gender identities, sexual orientation, and perspectives.

Science communication and ability to translate complex scientific concepts for the public; inter- and intra-personal and organizational communication; knowledge of agricultural science organizations; copywriting and editing; accuracy and attention to detail; presentation skills; social media; website management (T-4).

Must understand and implement UF and IFAS policies and procedures in accordance with all University of Florida rules and regulations.

Design and develop processes specific to Horticultural Sciences' needs in coordination with the Department Chair.

Frequent contact with other University departments and offices, and partner institutions. Frequent contact with faculty, graduate students, and external stakeholders, especially Florida agricultural communities.

With the departmental finance team, monitor communications and budgets.

Strong leadership skills and project coordination. Must take initiative, be creative with forward thinking ideas, and be able to use the latest technology to produce exceptional and compelling communications and events.

Work schedule:

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday – Friday. Flexible and variable. After-hours or weekend work may be required to accommodate time sensitive or time-dependent responsibilities, meet urgent deadlines, and cover events. Travel within Florida may be required.

Expected Salary:

$53,000 - $57,000

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience as a communication specialist for a large and diverse department.

Experience translating scientific communications to the public from a multidisciplinary research unit.
