GE Vernova would like to recruit a Senior Design and Technology Manager to work for our Grid Solution business. You will look at activities contributing to the design and development of products, solutions and systems. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components Impacts approaches, projects and programmes in the functional area or affected business organisation and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 2D cross sections, 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection

  • Typically a 1st line manager of professionals or a 2nd line manager of a professional department.

  • Developing specialised knowledge in their discipline.

  • Serves as best practice/quality resource.

  • Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area.

  • Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.

  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market

  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering.

  • Takes new perspective on existing solutions.

  • Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.

  • Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.

  • Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus.

  • Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience as a Lead or Head mechanical engineer with experience in design of large power transformers to IEC 60076 (including HVDC & Offshore).

  • Experience using design tools, able to challenge the results and construcitvely feedback using own experience to improve tools for future use.

  • Experience of document management systems.

  • Able to make links with all engineering functions plus project managers, sourcing and production as needed.

  • Strong transformer mechanical design knowledge (transformer design calculations, active part design & tank design).

  • Knowledge of paint systems and a working knowledge of ISO 12944 would be advantageous.

  • Ansys or similar design experience in simulating transformer scenarios including overpressure, vacuum, lifting & jacking (arc energy would be advantageous).

  • Should have worked as a team lead (4-8 team members) on medium to Large power transfomer design projects.
