Job Description Summary

The Control Account Manager leads and manages the assigned engineering team, and is accountable to the Engineering Project Manager (EPM) for delivering the scope associated with the designated control accounts (CAs), within the committed cost, schedule and quality constraints

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leads the project execution of the assigned engineering team to deliver on Control Account (CA) commitments … co-ordinates and organises teams, motivates and guides, provides leadership and vision … drives execution excellence, in a compliant manner

  • Engages with support functions across the matrix where necessary to deliver engineering objectives

  • In consideration of the scope statement and any other engineering objectives assigned by the Engineering Project Manager (EPM), works with the Systems Leader and Technical Leader (TL) to formulate the Work Breakdown Structure and associated CA work-packages

  • Engages the TL and functional organisations to develop robust engineering effort estimates for the CA scope that are underpinned by a well-documented basis of estimate (BoE). Organises these estimates against the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and project phase to enable the EPM to secure the associated engineering project budget.

  • Works with the TLs and functional organisations to develop a fully resourced engineering project schedule that satisfies the schedule objectives, priorities and constraints assigned by the EPM … iterate the schedule development with the EPM and PM where necessary to reach an agreed plan

  • Makes commitments to the EPM, on behalf of their team, for delivery of the assigned engineering CA scope against the agreed cost, schedule and quality targets

  • Engages functional organisations to secure the resources and skillsets necessary to deliver the assigned CA scope. Works with functional leaders in identifying and resolving any performance issues with the assigned team.

  • Works with their team to identify and mange engineering risk … quantifies engineering risk to the EPM via a local engineering risk register. Drives pro-active risk mitigation activities within the team to minimise project impacts

  • Manages the planning and operational performance of the team throughout the project lifecycle … works with the TL to ensure project team tasking is in place that aligns to the project priorities, and makes optimal use of the team resources. Pro-actively work with other CAMs to co-ordinate planning assumptions

  • Works with the TL to identify and quantify internal and external dependencies and ensures dependencies are reflected within the project plans. Leads the team to deliver on dependency outputs … works with the EPM to escalate input dependency needs such that these are visible at the appropriate level. Reflects the impact from missed dependencies into project plans.

  • Works within the program and project change process to ensure that any agreed scope changes, whether internally- or externally- driven, are ‘consumed’ by the engineering team in a controlled and co-ordinated way, and the change impacts are reflected into the detailed engineering plans

  • With inputs from the TL and team, perform monthly statusing of the detailed plans for the assigned CAs. Works with the Program Management Office (PMO) to submit monthly status and plans to the project IMS. Prepares variance reports and works with the EPM to identify and, where possible, resolve cost or schedule variances.

  • Ensures the necessary interaction between the TL and the functional and technical governance organisations is taking place where necessary to resolve technical issues and institute optimal engineering processes. With the EPM, co-ordinate the technical governance reviews with the CEO.

  • Supports the EPM in stakeholder reviews, including internal program or business reviews, and external customer reviews … generates the necessary KPIs and operational data for the assigned CAs to support these reviews

  • Performs as first point of contact (POC in managing external suppliers. Facilitates the necessary technical interactions between the supplier and engineering team. Escalates and works with the EPM to resolve any supplier performance or contract negotiation issues.Required Qualifications

  • This role requires advanced experience in the Engineering/Technology& Project Management. Knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).Desired Characteristics
