Position Summary

An exciting opportunity exists in our Calgary, AB office for an Accountant. 

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, this position is responsible for all aspects of operational accounting for Sherritt’s Oil, Gas, & Power Division, including the month end trial balance close for both business units. This role also provides support for a wide range of accounting tasks within the Finance team plus any ad-hoc analysis as required.

Accountabilities

  • Responsible to bill intercompany activities and balance accounts on a monthly/quarterly basis.

  • Responsible to reconcile accounts receivable accounts.

  • Responsible to record cash receipts, prepare monthly bank reconciliations, and booking of reconciling items appropriately.

  • Responsible to prepare monthly/quarterly general ledger account reconciliations.

  • Responsible to prepare and review working papers of required entries and transactions for the month end trial balance close.

  • Responsible to reconcile and file GST monthly.

  • Settle, book, and reconcile all travel charges in a timely manner by working closely with the travel administrator.

  • Work closely with the Accounts Payable to support timely data entry, payment of vendor invoices, appropriate allocation of withholding tax, irregular and/or prepayments, and resolution of any vendor disputes.

  • Support both internal and external audit tasks.

  • Support and consult with other departments to ensure accurate recording of day-to-day accounting.

  • Prepare and distribute operational accounting reports.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Professional accounting designation or working towards preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience required for the position.

  • Industry experience in the Oil, Gas, & Power generation businesses is an asset.

  • Experience with international operations is a benefit.

  • Strong written and verbal skills required.

  • Well-organized, detail orientated, and capable of working on multiple tasks within tight deadlines.

  • Strong collaboration skills and willing to assist in other areas where required.

  • Computer proficiency and experience with accounting systems required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Dynamics AX, and D365 would be an asset.
